Buying Information

When you are looking for the best rimfire scope, there are a few criteria to keep in mind.

  • Reticle Type. Just like any other kind of scope, there are multiple reticle types for you to choose from. This is a personal preference, so be sure to select a reticle that you feel comfortable using.
  • Magnification. Since a rimfire scope is going to be used on a smaller caliber firearm, you will probably not be shooting out to the same extreme distances as a centerfire rifle. As such, you will not need quite as much magnification. However, make sure that you get enough so that you can easily see your desired target at your desired distance.
  • Field of View. Once the scope is installed, make sure that you can see a full sight picture through the scope. If the end of the scope is too far from your eye or too close, you will not see through the scope correctly. Once adjusted, if the sight picture is still not great, you may need to find a scope with a larger opening to look through.
  • Ease of Installation. Unless you are a gunsmith by trade, you want to make sure that the installation process for your new scope is quick and easy, with zero chance of mix-ups. If the scope is installed correctly, it will not work.
  • Ease of Adjustment. Now that the scope has been installed, you need to zero it in. You should look for a scope with easy to use dials so that you can make sure you can easily hit your target.
  • Weight. Since the firearm, you will be using this scope on will most likely be on the lighter side, it makes more sense to get a lighter scope, so you don’t throw the gun out of balance. However, the heavier a scope is, the more durable it will be as well.

Top 3 Best Rimfire Scope Reviews

1. Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone-22

Of all the scopes that we reviewed, this is by far the best rimfire scope on the market today. It offers easy to use dials and a great reticle, which has multiple aim points that allow you to account for bullet drop over great distances.

Weighing in at 1.2 pounds, this Bushnell scope is also on the heavier side for the scopes we looked into. While this might cause some fatigue over an extended period of use, it also makes it extremely durable. Even after putting lots of rounds down range with it, we did not notice any loss of accuracy.

The scope has ample magnification to help you to see your targets more quickly. You can choose from 2x all the way up to 7x magnification with a simple twist of a dial. Even when it was zoomed up to its maximum amplification, we did not experience a loss in our field of vision.

Summary: A heavy and durable scope, it has multiple aim points in its reticle to account for bullet drop at larger distances. It also offers ample magnification for your shooting needs.

2. Vortex Crossfire II 2-7×32 Rifle Scope

The Vortex Crossfire II is another great choice for someone looking for a rimfire rifle scope. While it is a bit more expensive than our number one pick, it doesn’t have quite as many features, though it is still a reliable scope.

The reticle is a standard hunting reticle. It has crosshairs with only one aiming point; this means that once you have it zeroed in, you need to make sure that you don’t extend your shots too far beyond your zeroed point, as they may not hit where you want. Since you can easily shoot out to 100 yards or so with your rimfire rifle, that should not be a big problem.

The Crossfire II has 2x-7x multiplication, making it easy to reach out to greater distances and get a more accurate sight picture. It was easy to install and adjust so that the view through the scope was crystal clear.

Summary: A reliable scope that has good amplification is easy to install and has a simple reticle, the Vortex Crossfire II would make an excellent choice for your shooting needs.

3. Nikon ProStaff Rimfire with BDC Reticle

Of all the scopes we looked at, this Nikon offers the most amplification. Unlike our other two selections, this scope has 4x-12x magnification. While this will allow you to see out to greater distances, it may make closer up shots more difficult, since you are zoomed in so far automatically.

The reticle that the scope features has the same drop points as our number one selection, making it more versatile for longer distance shots. It was easy to install and zero and held its zero well even after lots of use.

Weighing in at 1.6 pounds, this is the heaviest scope we looked into. While this makes it durable, it may also feel out of place on some rimfire rifles, since they are so light, to begin with.

Summary: While it is a quality, high-amplification scope, this Nikon is also heavier than other rimfire scopes we looked at. The BDC reticle makes it easy to shoot accurately at greater distances.
